April 2010

New repertoire and old favourites

We are gradually adding a few more numbers to the set including a few suprising versions of well known songs. We are also working a few older numbers back in into the set that got missed when we switched systems.

If you have any suggestions for covers feel free to let us know at gigs or by email.

The Best of Album

We are re-recording all the songs for this and are now well past the half way mark.

We hope to have this ready by the Spring. We are still considering adding two new songs (well, everyone else does it!)

The mp3 player is now working again so you should be able to hear one or two newer recordings (see the link to "What's on The Driscoll Brothers radio?" above).

Bookings For 2010

We have already taken many bookings for 2010 but there are still a few dates left if you want to book us for a private party or venue. Please see the full guide (link below) beofre contacting us.

Changes to "our sound"

For 11 years we have used a floppy disc and sound module based system for our backing tracks which changes sounds on my guitar system at the same time. While this system has worked well the limited range of sounds from the sound module means some sounds are less real than others. In particular guitars and bass never sound quite like the real thing. Drums also have a limited range of tones and instruments like pianos are a little lo fi.

Just before Chirstmas 2008 we introduced a system using backing tracks created in my studio. I am playing all guitar and bass parts and using better quality samples / virtual instruments for other sounds. In particular the drum sounds (compiled from samples of our friend Paul Whittington when he did some recording for us) contain plenty of subtle variations.

We are now using the system for the whole set and have also introduced a handful of new songs. All that is left to do is to convert the songs we play less often for when we need them.

Special thanks to the audience at Ockford Social club, where we tested this system for the first time.

Big Dumb Pop Song EP: Buy it now!

Still available £3 is the "Big Dumb Pop Song" EP, featuring new 2007 recordings of "Big Dumb Pop Song" and the instrumental "Tumbledown". Also included are ragged but fun live versions of "She Wants It All" and "All Right Now" recorded at my 40th Birthday.
