Who Are The Driscoll Brothers?

BIOGRAPHY

Graham Nunn was a founder member of Mid Sussex based rock band Rome In A Day who begun in 1989. In 1991 Darren Dendy joined as lead singer and stayed until the group split later the following year.

Graham went on to sing lead vocals and play lead guitar in Full House – a power trio who played classic rock from the 50s to the 80s. Darren sung in Moondance, a five piece covers band who played classic pop from much the same era. When Full House called it a day Graham played a few solo gigs. He approached Darren in early 1997 when he decided it was hard work on his own and two people could put on a much better show. Darren had left Moondance and was at a loose end himself. After a little persuading he agreed.

Their first gig was at The Cricketers in Burgess Hill, West Sussex in May 1997 and they have been building a following steadily ever since. They won the final of the Southsea Pier talent show in 1998 and also reached the finals of a similar event in Bournemouth that year.

The duo have always played modern pop and rock covers and after inserting the odd original in here and they made the decision to record an album of originals in 1999 called Eight 'til Late. In 2000 they released the album Y2K, in 2001 Made In The 21st Century and in 2003 they released Almost Graceland. The last new album was Almost Unlpugged.

2007 sees the duo celebrating their 10th anniversary. They are currently re-recording some old songs for a new Best of CD which should be available later in the year.

FAQ

Why the name The Driscoll Brothers?
A friend suggested that we call ourselves the something "Brothers" since many famous entertainment 'families' were not really related. Darren suggested The Driscoll Brothers, a couple of heavies from the TV series Only Fools and Horses.
It's all on tape, isn't it?
Despite the temptation to do so, no it is not! We use a system called MIDI where the backings are produced by a sound module played by a floppy disc based data system. This means the backings always sound the same, provided no faults have got into the system.
He's not really playing the guitar though, is he?
Yes, he is. Like Darren's microphone, Graham's guitar uses a wireless system. All his sounds a programmed into the backings so they change as the song progresses.
Where do they get the stage outfits?
The original outfits were all made by Darren's mother. We have since added a few more shirts which have been bought "off the peg" and modified.
Why aren't the cover versions they play live on their CDs?
When you start recording other people's songs you have to pay them royalties. This gets very complicated when you are as small as us! We also have plenty of our own songs we want you to hear.
How safe are The Driscoll Brothers?
The duo's equipment is PAC tested and they have public liability insurance. We recommend any other act to do the same thing - it is not worth it if something goes wrong and you are not covered.
